aka "is a graphic design show without hierarchy, in fact, it's a ahow without a title. 16 designers exhaust all available networks and reconfiguring existing materials with a new agenda." It's the first time in many years that the students decided to put actual physical work in the thesis show. To accommodate nearly 250 pieces of work in the exhibition space without overwhelming the audience with quantinty, the class brings together heads to come to a curatorial solution which provides thematic groupings of work at the same time allows room for free association and induced disorientation to come across.
The flythrough promotion video is the end product of the planning process. The curatorial scheming happened over the course of time using Google Sketchup 3D model as visual aid. Since the idea of transparency and anti-hierarchy is central to the concept of the show, it became natural to make transparent the process by presenting the video.

from_to_: MFA 2012 GROUP SHOW
Designed in collaboration with Weiyi Li. First exhibition of MFA 2012 candidates right after summer break. The design consists of 55 envelops given to all second-year Yale School of Art students. They were asked to fill in the blanks following two prepositions From and To. The returned envelops with answers eventually became the title wall design of the exhibition, and the name and departmental tabs on the envelops become the labelling system.
IN BETWEEN: A CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ
The catalogue reflects a body of work that questions the notion of having one singular, static, or, as I prefer to put it quite mischievously, a straight identity in a globalized, post-colonial space where both forced and free-willed migration is the day-to-day phenomenon. The unbound loose pages induce moments of confusion and invite the viewer to counter, engage and reconfigure the book.
SHING-SHANG LING-LONG DING DONG
Collection of 15 sets of Reuter news photography feed represented in half-sized postcard strips. Each set represents a stereotype the world has for the Asian community: eating, sleeping in public spaces, luxurious goods buyers, mass game, etc. Watch the inspiration video here.

STAHL: TYPEFACE REVIVAL

IDENTITY & PERFORMATIVITY
The structure of the book defies the conventional linearity of book reading. To introduce to its readers the chaotic and fluid nature of sexual identity, the reading of the book also takes an unconventional, non-linear form. Chapter 1 starts on the left page and continues on the next left page, and so forth. In the succeeding chapter 2, the whole text rotates 90° counter-clock wise and continues on the left pages. The end of chapter 2 reaches the last physical page (not numerical page) of the book where the text makes a 180° rotation and chapter 3 continues on the right pages from the bottom of the book to the front. Chapter 4 ends on the opposite page to which chapter 1 starts. The book starts and finishes on the same spread.
